This year I had the opportunity to be in Manhattan on New Year’s Eve. I did Times Square on New Year’s in 1999 with a great group of friends. I’m so glad I had the chance to do it, but I’ll never do that again. It was too many people, too cold for too long.

This year, we walked over to the Great Lawn in Central Park just before midnight. From the Great Lawn you can see the fireworks that they launch from the lower end of Central Park. It was a fantastic view of the light show and a great way to celebrate the turning of the new year. This year, as well, was particularly mild. It was in the high 50’s on New Year’s Eve, opposed to below freezing in 1999.

I took some photos of the fireworks with my new camera phone and merged several to create the photo above. Neat how the resulting image looks a little like a heart. Maybe that’s a sign of good things to come.
