blizzardWe got slammed pretty hard with this Northeast “Blizzard.” It started snowing around noon on Saturday and ended around noon on Sunday. All morning the wind was pretty fierce – kicking snow around until snowdrifts formed the size of small SUVs. Not sure how much we actually got. They were predicting 12″-18″. I think we got somewhere in between. It may just be my twisted memory of things, but when I was a kid, a snowfall like this would never be called a “blizzard.” This was a normal snowstorm. Nothing too spectacular. Good enough to get a day or two off school, but not worthy of the title “blizzard.” It seems like even the little storms are falling prey to the “Storm Of The Century” Phenomenom. Every storm, no matter how minor, needs to be the biggest news story of the day. I remember playing out in the yard on snow days with my Star Wars action figures. I would continually recreate the Battle of Hoth – complete with Tauntaun, Snowspeeder, AT-AT, AT-ST, Imperial Probe Droid, and a whole host of rebel infantry. It was awesome.

Once the snow stopped falling and the sun poked out, we took Erin outside to experience her first deep snowfall. All in all, she was pretty ticked-off. As Mommy and Daddy laughed their heads off, snapping pictures, Erin just glared up at us under the hood of her pink snowsuit. You could see the distain in her eyes. It was cold. Real cold. And Erin made it pretty clear that she was not pleased with this situation. Not one bit. The photo above was the biggest smile she gave… okay, it’s not really worthy of being called a smile. Let’s just say that this photo shows her happiest moment while outside today.

Later, I built a fire and we watched the Eagles win their final playoff game amid the flickering shadows. It was a good weekend. A very good weekend.
