Home, Sweet Home

Home, Sweet Home
H.R. Bishop & John H. Payne – 1823

‘Mid pleasures and palaces though I may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home;
A charm from the sky seems to hallow us there,
Which, seek thro’ the world, is ne’er me with elsewhere.

Home! Home! Sweet, sweet home!
There’s no place like home,
There’s no place like home.

An exile from home, splendor dazzles in vain,
Oh, give me my lowly thatched cottage again;
The birds singing gaily, that come at my call;
Give me them, with that peace of mind, dearer than all.

I mentioned in my last blog that the closings on our two properties took place during a bad snow storm. On top of the weather it looked like, on more than one occasion, that the whole thing might just fall through. Well, the move-in day didn’t go much better as we moved in as they moved out.

“You put your stuff on THIS side of the driveway, and we’ll put ours on THIS side…”

I’m past it all. I don’t want to dwell on the negatives any longer. We moved into the house and the next morning I left for a business trip to Boca Raton. Leaving my very capable wife alone amid the boxes and dust which was still settling all around her, I went and played golf in shorts and feasted on 5-star dining (yeah, I did some work too). I’m back home now and am so excited to start the Eicher Homestead Beautification Initiative, or EHBI for short. (We’re a small start-up with poor funding, but big dreamers)

God has blessed us with this house, and we’re going to give 110% into makeing it a home for us and our family.

I love this house. It’s not a perfect house, but it’s perfect for us.
