I got the canoe on the car, late last night. Soon after, the paddles, pfd and packed dry bag were also packed tight. I made sure everything was set before going up to bed. I awoke early this morning, dressed and drove across state lines to the lake. I wish I could say I was the first one there, but there were a handful of real fishermen already out on their 12-footers, praying for the big catch.

I packed a spinner reel, and threw a few casts, but I was really out there to paddle. To continue to get to know my new canoe. I’m also happy that I thought to pack my camera, because I think I got a few nice shots. Besides the three below, I also took some photos of a curious beaver who was shadowing me for a few minutes. He never got close enough for me to get a really great photo, but I’m sure I’ll see him again.

I hope everyone has a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. Let’s not overlook what this weekend is for.
